Getting started
The content on
connect2earth is provided by members of the community. So we need your - as a member of the community - help in keeping the site nice and clean and tidy! Here's what you can do:
- Before adding content to the site please check the Terms & Conditions
- Make sure you only add content that is relevant, not offensive in any way, and for which you own the copyright! Failure to do so will mean your content will be removed. Sorry.
- Take a look at what other people have been adding. Read the comments, watch the videos, admire the pictures and rate as many contributions as you can!
- If you find content that you don't feel is appropriate, report it as abusive, and we'll remove it as soon as possible!
- And of course, while you are doing all of this join us in marveling at just how important our planet is to us. How important we find the variety of life that lives on it. The vistas we see. The sites we marvel at. The things we care about. :)
Problems signing up?
It won't accept my username or password
The sign-up requires you to have at least 5 characters in both your username and your password. Also only use letters and numbers - no special characters (like % & * etc) and no spaces.
It says my email address is not valid
If you are positive that your email is correct, just check that there are no trailing spaces after your address (especially if you are copy and pasting it in). Otherwise just make sure that the @ is in it.
What happens next?
Once you have completed the form you will receive an email message from us. Just click on the link in the email to confirm your registration. If you don't receive this email, you might want to check your spam or junk mail folder just in case it ended up in there.
When you registration is confirmed you are all set to start participating in the debate and changing the world!
Can't login?
You can login on top of each page by entering the username and password you specified when you registered
If you have forgotten your password just click on the 'Forgot password" link next to sign in fields? Enter the email address you used to register and we will email you a new password. Please note that you can always change that password in your profile.
My username and password are correct but I still can't log in
Write to us and let us know - we can figure it out together with you.
Problems uploading?
You can participate in the discussion either by pressing on the reply link located at the top right of each contribution, or by entering your comment directly in the "Give your input" dialog box at the bottom of the discussion page.
Please note that you have to be signed in to participate.
You can then enter your contribution in the message box related to the current theme. Just say what you think! The only thing we ask is that all contributions be in English and that they respect other members of the community. So please make sure you are polite... Once you have clicked on 'submit' your contribution is up for all others to read.
Don't forget to enter a subject for your post, it will be helpful when other members will look at the discussion.. Please use the little B, U and I buttons to add any formatting just as you would do when writing a document in a program like Microsoft Word.. Please do NOT copy & paste any HTML content in this box as this may cause the formatting of your text to get a little messed up!
You can also attach videos or images to your contribution. connect2earth easily allows you to display videos and images that you have uploaded on other sites, such as flickr, youtube, etc. Please note that you cannot upload images and videos directly to connect2earth.
- "Grab by URL": with this option, you can directly enter the link of your piece of content that sits on another site. For example if you want to attach a video from youtube enter the youtube link to your video that should look like something like this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvnICfqeuJA
connect2earth supports the following sites: Youtube, Google video, Vimeo, Flickr (videos), Metacafe, Dailymotion, Collegehumor, Blip.tv, Myspace, Ted Talks, 11870.com, Qik, Marca.tv, Dalealplay
- "From other services": with this option you access your flickr and youtube accounts directly. Just enter your flickr or youtube id , press get and connect2earth displays the images or videos that you have already uploaded to Flickr or youtube. If you would like connect2earth to remember this id, please click on save to profile. You will then be able to select the pictures you want to attach to your contribution.
Problems rating content?
To rate a piece of content you first need to be registered and logged into the site. Once you've done that, you can click on thumb up/thumb down icon located below the member username at the left of each contribution. Clicking on thumb up adds one point to the overall rating, clicking on thumbs down substract one point. Once you've rated, the total number of points appears in place of the icons. You can only rate each piece of content once however, so choose carefully!
Can I contact directly other people who have signed up?
No - sorry - at present you cannot do that. Eventually you will be able to send them a message through the site (but you will never see their email address).
What is connect2earth all about?
connect2earth is an online community for people interested in saving our planet. You participate in discussion on specific topical environmental themes through photos, videos or words via this web site or your mobile device.
Once your stuff is up, it can be replied to, and ranted by everyone else coming to this site. Those getting the most votes and the highest overall ranks will win some really cool prizes (currently a solar charger for your mobile) (awarded at the end of each theme period). As we get closer to the COP 15 meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark, our green jury will select from the top contributors the one member that will attend the summit with the WWF/IUCN delegation.
Find out more about the project and how it works
Who is behind it?
connect2earth is a join initiative of WWF and IUCN which has been made possible with the support of Nokia. To find out more about the 3 organizations visit our Who we are page.
How does the competition work?
Each 2-month our green Jury chooses a winner among the top rated contributors. This theme winner will receive a really cool mobile phone solar charger.
At the end of of March 2010 our green jury will select from the top contributors the one member that will visit a WWF environmental project.
For more details on the competition and the jury please read the competition rules.
How do I report offensive or copyrighted content?
If you spot content that is inappropriate or offensive just click on the 'Report abuse' button next to each contribution. This will then be quickly removed from the site.
If you spot content that infringes on your copyright please follow our
copyright notice procedure.
I've got a great idea for making the site better, what do I do?
We love feedback. Seriously. So please
let us know about what you like on the site, what you hate, and how you think we can make it better. The more feedback we get the better the site will be and the greater the chance we have of making a real difference in protecting the planet.
Any other questions?
Anything else that we haven't covered here? Just let us know and we'll do our best to get back to you quickly. We promise!
