AEGEE

AEGEE (Association des Etats Généraux des Etudiants de l’Europe – European Students’ Forum) is Europe’s largest multidisciplinary student organization, with around 15 000 members, active in 232 academic cities, in 43 countries all around Europe.

Our main fields of action are connected with cultural heritage, active citizenship, higher education and international peace & stability. As environmental problems and lack of information about sustainable development are still growing concern of the society, our organization has decided to focus its flagship project 2008-2009 to the topic of sustainable development.

“Sustaining our Future”, initiated and carried out by multicultural team consisting of young people from different parts of Europe, aims to raise knowledge and involvement of European youth and their communities in the topic of sustainable development. The project consists of different local, intermediate and European level activities like seminars, conferences, case study visits, action days, youth exchanges, etc. They are focusing on European citizenship, education for sustainable development, sustainable living solutions and consumption patterns and social responsibility of European youth organisations.

European Day of Environment is an action day in frames of “Sustaining our Future”, calling for AEGEE local groups to make local events around World Environment Day on June 5th. As part of the activities for European Day of Environment, a contest in partnership with connect2earth has been created, asking young Europeans their opinion about renewable energy. The contest lasts from May 25th to June 12th.

Young adults 4 new results

Young Adults 4 New Results is the inaugural Youth Forum of the Global Humanitarian Forum. Since it is the new generation who will be mostly affected by climate change, it is logical that they should be actively involved in paving the way forward countering the effects of this major global problem. Moreover, since climate change is already severely impacting upon the daily lives of thousands of people, it is crucial that young adults, as one of the planet’s key stakeholder groups, have an opportunity to express their views on this global challenge. Thus, the aim of the Youth Forum is to provide the young participants with the necessary skills to play their part in countering the effects of climate change and to find new ideas and solutions to this global problem. By establishing a network of action, the objective is to spur on the participants to develop ideas, solutions and projects and to independently implement them after the completion of the Youth Forum.
