You said exactly what I meant to say in my first post here. People want change but they don`t send this messages. They (maybe we) always want to have more money, an expansive car, a big house and to live well and, wrongly, they think that these are the things to bring it. With those actions we are not saying "we want to change global warming" among other issues, we are saying "we want more malls, we want more industries to make good cars for us". This way there is no way.
Very good post.

It is almost like a documentary Greenpeace made once here in Brazil. Nice of you to remember this movie. Men were always kin to war and killing others but to do it to oneself, thinking it will never come back to you is the most stupid thing ever done.

I agree. In Brazil everybody, when discussing social and environmental issues, ends their speech with a "education is the basis of everything". But they do nothing about it. It is all that question of money again. Education improvement is a long term investment. When the government invests on education the results of this investment will start to show in about 5 or 10 years. In 5 or 10 years the president (or the entire party - in Brazil we have way too much of those) will probably not be the same, it will be from another party, another president, and this current president will get all the credit for the increase in Brazilian education because the improvement is shown in this new president mandate. They think, maybe with sure, that people will not remember that it was the old president that did the investment not the new one though, of course, the results were shown later. So that`s why politicians don`t invest too much in education, they want people to know what they do now not in 10 years. They want to stay in charge not give the credit to the "enemy".
In Brazil we have good education, Brazilians are intelligent people (thank God, otherwise we would be lost), but it all depends on the teachers and their will to teach and the students and their will to learn (and this in any kind of school - particular or public). The teachers are the big heroes of Brazil because they earn a misery wage to teach and everybody knows that but they choose to teach anyway. Can you imagine people getting a poor fundamental education? It will just get poorer and poorer. And ironically the poorest people are the ones to go after education (well, maybe not so ironically since they want to change their lives). The rich ones go to famous colleges because they have money or through parental influence on someone, buy this will not change them. They can go to the best places but they won`t learn if they don`t want to or don`t have interest. There are people who learn everything by themselves and never did a single course or never went to college. We have to judge people by themselves not by their curriculum - we don`t know what difficulties or opportunities they had in life. Money can change everything but peoples mind about right and wrong.

This is looking like the past all over again, except that the countries growing right now are the ones who lost then. But this time things have to be different. They can't make the same decisions on favor of economy like they did before.

Human reclusion of a majority who starve for a minority who dies of fear ($$$ if you know what I mean). The exchange: green leaves for green paper. Unfortunately Men learn with crises, where they have a chance to learn and evolute.
The human being will be the greatest discovery of the third millenium.

It is a vicious circle. And, what is worse, involves culture, something very, very difficult to change provided that there is no right and no wrong culture.

Same in Brazil. I live in the only county which the seasons were always right: winter when it`s supposed to be winter, summer when it`s supposed to be summer and so on. But this year it was terrible, unpredictable.

Really? I was not aware that this was the way in Vietnam nowadays. But it`s not just there, the whole world (with obvious exceptions) became a United States wannabe. They think USA is the model to be followed, with its big cities, large economy, good way of life and Hollywood. But USA has its faults that are just overlooked.
So I agree with you. United States changing may bring change elsewhere (unless other countries see there a opportunity to pass USA economically ).

The thing is that undeveloped countries have the same right to grow economically as the developed ones had, yes. BUT the world is not the same as it was before so the rules have to change. It's now or now. Under developed countries cannot have all that freedom to polute, that's absurd.
And I guess all the Earth is badly affected by climate change because nature doesn't choose an especific place to act, even last now that it is unpredictable.
But I see your concern about under developed nations. I'm from Brazil and I also would like to see my country developing... but first things first. Maybe, some time in future, we will not even have a fixed land to belong too.

“power is big developed countries politic`s currency and it`s that that the countries compete for." (MEARSHEIMER, 2007, p. 28). (the words are not exact because I freely translate it from portuguese, sorry).
They don`t think civil society is smart enough or knows what is good for them (for us). But that is because people don`t react, just a few ones. Join hands is really the thing, just like a post second World War Japan or a nowadays Argentina. "One for all and all for one", basic childhood learning that we tend to forget. People grow up and start being "serious" and all business like and forget how it used to be before, when they were kids not preoccupied with money and economy and politics just live and be happy. Sometimes I want to slap them (but don`t worry, it`s a controlled ache).

The government`s page should be displaying it. Maybe Universities sites around the globe should be too. And definitely the most accessed web sites: Twitter, My Space, Facebook.

"Do
you think individuals would be willing to email or visit their own
local government...and show them how they can put atmospheric CO2 on
display? Would people just do that, or what would help to make it easy
to do that? "
Maybe. I don't know how is it in your country. But here in Brazil it is very difficult to visit a local government and make them listen to you. What I know is that in groups it may work. I did some volunteering work with Greenpeace once and they had a meeting with some politics from my city to talk about "black pixel projet". I think it is easier that way.

It's the same thing MIT said many years ago. If it was necessary then to get to zero carbon emissions imagine now.

"I
think most people don't see the importance of the treasure some great
forest, like the Amazonian forest, they think it's destruction doesn't
affect them in their daily lives."
It's not that at all. We, who live closer to Amazonian forest, know pretty well it's importance. People who burn trees also know, they just like the money better. They just don't care.
It's true that our corrupt and shameless government could do a lot more to protect the forest, but it is huge. It's very, very big. All the time in class or television they show images about the burning of trees and stuff but when you fly over the forest you can't see those things. The forest looks endless (unfortunately, it isn't). So it is very hard to have control over it.
Most of the times it is a work NGOs do. And the second worst of the situation is that there are people living there. A lot.

That's why when there are news of global warming those news are so alarming, they create panic, because people like to read about end of the world and disasters. This always calls attention.

Well, I hope they don't put IMF or World Bank in the money lending bussiness.
In this case of poverty Africa excells and, pity, the financial world don't care about Africa at all. Their word at important issues that will afect the entire world won't be taken seriously.

That's a delicate matter. How can one forbid a free spirit from having as many children as he/she wants? How can one always have control, in every part of the world, over birth? And it also involves religions and procriation subjects and we all know that talking about that is dangerous.
Malthus, an economist, once said the real thing: nature have control over population because it brings deseases and catastrophes that will kill a lot of people (yes, creepy), like hurricanes, earthquakes, Swine Flu, Spanish Flu and so on. The problem is that men is killing nature and nature doesn't haved control over itself anymore. How can nature control its strengh now? It was supposed to kill a certain number of people in a certain part of the world once in a while. Not everybody, everywhere and forever.
No nature and no Men. What an irony.

Ow, very good.
I`m still young so I guess I`m a part of that generation going to chance the world (for better, please). Great to know that there are others with the same will power around the globe. Young people nowadays only want to know about snogging, shopping and going out that I thought the world would be forever lost.

Correct. This will be a problem for all countries to solve in the future, it will be a consequence of everyone`s everyday actions but I bet they will blame it all on the own refugees, as if the have fault from what is happening to them. The same situation of the immigrants that some countries despise. More mouths for the world to feed and more lives to have responsability upon. It`s just getting worse and worse. Kill the environment for money, money this that will be used, among other things, to help those refugees of the capitalist world.

It is absurd that they are preparing to receive refugees instead of doing something right now to prevent having homeless people.
Like `Winoria` said, countries like Bangladesh will be totally destroyed by an alteration in sea level. The world already has many refugees to care, like the ones from Palestina.

I am very excited about COP15, just can`t wait.
In reply to `sameerindia`, I agree with the promotion of the disastrous effects of climate change in rural area. These people also have their participation, are also citizens and they deserve knowledge and information. It`s the same in Brazil, people complain that poor people and people outside big cities don`t have information and don`t know nothing of the "real" world... but if the government does nothing, how can they?

Ok, but politicians are human beings (in theory at least) and they are corrupt, they steal and the majority of them don't care about the people. The few ones that really want to do good are threaten or killed. I'm saying this in a brazillian point of view but history in other countries tell me it is not so different elsewhere.

That's why I repeat that the human being will be the greatest discovery of the thrid millenium.
Now it's not a time of brotherhood, that's not space for prejudice and disagreement. The more frontiers are destructed, the more ignorance and prejudice we have, it's absurd.

I like your answers very much, Pro Oxygen. Being part of youth myself I know that it is possible, but a little difficult to perform such a transformation in young people's mind. It is above all a question of culture and how people are "thought" to think. Take, for example, Asia: how South Korea grew up through education (though sometimes I think it is very hard on them) and how Japan rebuild itself through the union of its population. In Brazil I know that doing those things would be difficult since we are very much into the "Ocidental individualism", the bad of the century, where when that is a chance of gaing only to oneself this is the way people will follow. Always thinking of themselves and s*** the rest. So the youth is already in its majority, but we are not stupid, we are smart and we can learn.
