Un glacial víctima del cambio climático.
Estamos a pocos meses para que se lleve a cabo la reunión ambiental más importante de los últimos tiempos, en la cual los líderes de 192 países se congregarán en la XV Conferencia Internacional sobre el Cambio Climático a realizarse en Copenhague, Dinamarca en diciembre de este año.
El objetivo primordial será sellar un acuerdo jurídicamente vinculante sobre el clima, válido en todo el mundo, que reemplazará el Protocolo de Kioto que finaliza en el 2012.
Buscando vincular el mayor número de personas en este proceso de decisión WWF y UICN presentanwww.connect2earth.org, una comunidad en línea que permite a los jóvenes expresar sus opiniones sobre el medio ambiente, a través de la carga de vídeos, fotos y comentarios; igualmente es un espacio para que los usuarios debatan, aprendan y compartan información en forma directa con los principales expertos medioambientales del planeta. Mediante esta herramienta los jóvenes además podrán conectarse con amigos del mundo entero para tratar temas específicos, tales como la energía renovable, la crisis de la extinción de las especies, el cambio climático y el futuro de la vida.
El aporte más valioso y determinante en esta comunidad virtual, será reconocido con un viaje a tan importante evento que podría cambiar el rumbo del mundo.

Thankyou for contacting Ashfield Council regarding our upcoming Eco Challenge program. The following email will explain a bit more about the Eco Challenge project.
When will it begin?
Eco Challenge is due to launch in December of this year after a promotional period. We will notify you when Eco Challenge is set to begin and will send out registration documents.
Who can participate?
- Eco Challenge is open to any residents living within the Ashfield Local Government Area. Residents will be invited to participate as households and participation will therefore be limited to one registration per residential address.
- Eco Challenge is suitable for any dwelling type, e.g. houses, units, townhouses, apartments, etc.
- Both Owner-Occupiers and Renters are invited to participate in Eco Challenge
- People living outside of the Ashfield area will be able to receive Eco Challenge fact sheets via email but will not be eligible to enter prize draws.
What will it involve?
- Participating households will be required to carry out a simple home efficiency audit at the start of Eco Challenge. This audit will take under 10 minutes and will provide participants and Council with valuable information on current levels of home efficiency.
- Each month participating households will receive a Fact Sheet on a different sustainability theme. They will also be issued with several challenges relating to that theme, ranging from easy to difficult. Examples of Themes include: Saving Water, Shopping with Care, Sustainable Festivities. Examples of challenges include: turning off standby appliances every night for a week, using a plug when washing the dishes, investigating State and Federal Government home efficiency rebate programs, taking public transport to work.
- Households will report back to Council on which challenges they have undertaken and for each completed challenge they will receive an entry into a major prize draw.
- Council will undertake checks to ensure households are actually undertaking challenges .
- At the end of Eco Challenge households will be asked to carry out a second home efficiency audit to check whether their actions have reduced their environmental impacts.
- Council will also be running a series of free sustainable living workshop that will loosely correlate with the various themes.
What are the prizes?
Council is still confirming prizes but as an indication the prize draw will include:
- at least one major prize of $1000 towards accredited household efficiency improvements. e.g. solar panels, a rainwater tank, an energy and water efficient washing machine, an energy efficient hot water system. Conditions will apply.
- a host of smaller prizes
- other incentives and giveaways
What to do now?
As you have already registered an interest in Eco Challenge all you have to do now is wait. We will notify you prior to the commencement of Eco Challenge and in the meantime, please mention Eco Challenge to friends and family who live in the Ashfield Local Government Area who may be interested in participating.
