tips to reduce power consumption

i think as a electrical engineering student, i think the best way to reduce power consumption is using other alternative and efficient power sources which are Eco friendly and non conventional.....
i think the best of them all is solar energy , hydro and wind.... though harnessing hydro and wind energy inv...
